The Secret to Getting Anything You Desire

I want to demystify something today, and it’s a doozy…

The process of manifesting ANYTHING you desire.

But before we dive into that, I want to first address something.

To me, there seem to be two divergent schools of thought that preach how to get what you want:

  1. One says manifesting what you desire is all about energy and alignment and trusting the flow of life and being unattached to outcomes. Soft. Feminine. Woowoo.

  2. And one that says getting what you want is all about hustling, putting in your time, working longer/better/harder than anyone else to rise to the top and succeed. Hard. Masculine. All strategy no heart.

Neither of these two schools of thought is inherently bad, and honestly I love elements of both. They are just incomplete.

If you’re all flowy with no action, there’s no momentum.
If you’re all hustle with no alignment, you hit wall after wall and burn yourself out.

So, then, what is the answer?

The truth as I’ve come to understand it and experience it in my 10+ years of entrepreneurship is this…

Creating/Getting/Manifesting (you pick your favorite word!) what you want is 50% mindset, energy & getting in alignment AND 50% action.

But, not just any action -- inspired action.

Inspired action is the natural extension of energetic alignment. We first must think and feel and believe ourselves into a really good place then take feel-good action. That’s when the magic happens.

We tend to skew to one side or the other. Toward the feminine or the masculine. We either default to hustle, or we default to hoping that our positive vibes alone will get us there.

For the first 7 or so years of my business I was majorly in hustle/masculine mode. I would push forward even when major resistance slowed things to a snail’s pace. I would try to force things, control outcomes, and manipulate the future. This was totally exhausting and didn’t work very well. (My bank account was a testament to that…)

It wasn’t until I began to work on my mindset, trust more and welcome a bit more “feminine” in my approach to business (and life for that matter) that things really began to shift and flow. I was more balanced, more effective and positioned to succeed in a sustainable way.

So where to from here?

Awareness is always the first step toward transformation.

Begin to notice where you are on the spectrum and aim for a more balanced approach. Even it’s just a subtle 5% shift. Start small and grow from there.

When you do find that sweet spot of alignment + inspired action that is when it gets really, really good.

At the end of every podcast episode, Lewis Howes asks his guest a question called “The 3 Truths”.

Essentially, he asks them to imagine it’s their final day on earth and all they can leave behind is a piece of paper with their “3 truths” on it -- the 3 things they would like to leave as their legacy for the world to remember them by.

This got me thinking…

What are my 3 truths?

What would be the 3 things I would share on that piece of paper in hopes of leaving the world a better place for my family, my friends and my community?

I was sharing this with my husband over a delicious breakfast at a great restaurant, Parc in Philadelphia, when he turned the tables on me and asked, “So, what would your 3 truths be?”

Here’s what spilled out of me:

  1. You create your life.

    Every thought you think. Every dream you have. Every action you take are building your life one piece at a time. You have ultimate creative power. If you don’t like what you see, you can change it.

  2. Trust.

    Trust life, trust yourself, trust timing, trust your dreams. Just trust.

  3. Life is supposed to feel good.

    This existence isn’t meant to be a struggle. We aren’t meant to be in pain constantly. We’re here to learn, grow, expand. And, yes, FEEL GOOD! This is our birthright.

So, now (you guessed it!) I’m turning the tables on YOU.

What would your 3 truths be?

Don’t overthink it. Grab a piece of paper or open up your journal and see what spills out of you when you consider the question.

The 3-Day Workweek Manifesto (for you, by you)

I’ve been realizing that my little 3-day workweek has taken on a life of its own.

What started as a personal choice for myself, my family and my business back in January of 2015 has since transformed into a shining beacon of “success on your terms” for nearly 10,000 women.

So here’s the deal.

→ I want to give you the steps to make a 3-Day Workweek (or whatever ideal working situation you desire) your reality.

→ I want to empower you with the tools you need to create epic success on your terms.

→ And, I want you to boldly stand for (and go after!) whatever “success” means to you -- whether it be big and glorious and 7-figures or cozy and serene and totally taken care of.

With those goals in mind, I realized that we as a community needed a unifying force. Something for all of us to gather around, stand behind and share with the world.

Hence was born The 3-Day Workweek Manifesto :-)

We are a global collective of women entrepreneurs who prioritize lifestyle above all else.

We want abundant full-time income & part-time hours.

We want to do the work that lights us up, while still being present for ourselves, our loved ones and our lives.

We dream BIG and take inspired action toward those dreams every day.

We want flow and ease as we create our own version of success - one that lights us up.

We desire an abundance of time, money and energy for all of our desires and priorities.

Every day we aim for growth and expansion.

Every day we aim to be a better version of ourselves.

We seek both personal and professional development.

We are women - mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, friends, business owners, change makers, founders, leaders, creatives, visionaries.

We realize our dreams matter, and we understand that our dreams are meant for us.

We want to feel good in the realization of those dreams -- every step of the way.

We know that by living in alignment with our dreams + desires we are making our maximum contribution and setting the best example we can for future generations.

We create our lives.

We are making a difference.

We are changing the world.

This manifesto flowed out of in the dark early morning hours before my meditation. I see it as a living document -- something that will grow and change and evolve as we grow, change and evolve. But for now, I think it’s pretty darn good :-)

I hope you are thoroughly enjoying this holiday week and are giving yourself time to relax and reflect before the new year arrives.

One of the things I have been exploring as I set my intentions for 2019 is how can I set myself up to push less and receive more.

It’s an interesting thing to think about considering most of my life was about achieving -- getting straight As, making the Varsity tennis team, getting into a “good” college, running a successful business (must achieve 6-figures!) and ultimately trying to be the best at everything.

That was an exhausting way of living. I was short tempered, tired and rigid. I literally couldn’t accept support. I can do it myself -- and better!

Since becoming a mom to two little girls, I’ve been cracked open to a softer, more feminine way of being. A way that feels less structured and more fluid. Less regimented and more trusting. Less pushy and more receptive.

When I focus on what brings me joy and peace and fun, I feel good.

When I focus on achievement and striving and winning, I feel closed off.

I wish it could always be this simple -- focus on what feels good and that’s that -- but because I’m human, I’m reminded on a daily basis of my humanity.

I snap at my girls or my husband.
I spiral with self-doubt when a potential project or client falls through.
I judge myself and my body just because it’s an old habit.

But, I now also have the ability to witness these human moments in a larger context. I’m able to see them as a call to expand -- a chance to shine the light of awareness on an ancient groove that’s no longer serving me so that I can fill it with love.

Every day we have the opportunity to move in one of two directions:

  1. Toward our Truth (our desire, our light, our highest self)

  2. Toward fear (self-doubt, judgment, worry, guilt, lack)

I know which way I want to move. And knowing is the first step. Knowing takes you out of default mode and into the intentional design of your life.

It takes you out of pushing and into receiving.

Here’s the truth…

You’ve got everything you need already within you at this very moment.

So, there is no need to push. Simply open to it. Receive.

May your days be merry and bright, and may you always shine your light :-)

I am so excited to have Missy Kai joining me this week on the 3-Day Workweek Podcast. Missy is an awesome past client and dear friend who is totally rocking it in her business. She helps busy, active professionals to improve mobility, relieve pain, and reduce stress. Specifically she specializes in creating personalized treatment plans, based on holistic yoga and bodywork therapies for healing mind-body-spirit.

Missy has several certifications and over 2000+ hours of combined therapeutic training and experience in yoga, breathwork, meditation, Ayurveda, functional range conditioning, massage, nutrition, and anatomy. Since founding Missy Kai Yoga in 2017, she has served thousands of students, who love her systematic yet intuitive approach to treatment. Her offerings include private sessions (both in-person and globally online), group classes, workshops, special events, online courses, and mentorships for other yoga teachers. In her free time, Missy likes to relax, play drums, and do acro yoga on the beach with her friends.

Missy has taken a really interesting approach to finding her ideal client, and how she works with them once. You’ll get a glimpse at how was able to niche down in a way that has allowed her business to skyrocket, especially in a such a crowded industry like yoga. She also gives some great advice for anyone who is feeling like the industry they are in is too crowded.
